Timbuktu, which means the city of Buktu in the local language, was founded in the 12th century by Buktu, a Tuareg woman who owned a water well near the Niger River in Mali, West Africa. Nomads and traders traveling across the Sahara desert would stop at her well to get water for their camels and other animals. Buktu recognized the potential for trade and commerce in the area and decided to establish a settlement there. She worked tirelessly to build the settlement, which grew into a thriving city known for its wealth, culture, and scholarship. Today, the ancient mosques, libraries, and other landmarks in Timbuktu are a testament to the city's rich history and the legacy of Buktu, the Tuareg woman who founded it. This Necklace was made based on our logo which represent Buktu herself.
